Steps continue to be taken toward the dream of supportive housing for people with alzheimer's disease. The Mitkas-Hunter Hope Foundation continues to fundraise and apply for various grants to fund a proposed ten-bed care home in Creighton. Founder Helen Hunter over the summer briefly discussed the concept with Premier Lorne Calvert of Saskatchewan and Premier Gary Doer of Manitoba, who both visited the area. Hunter has since been in contact the appropriate ministers. One notable fundraiser, a dinner complete with live music, is coming up on October 15 at Rocky View Lodge. Meanwhile, as a way of giving back to the community, Foundation volunteers will soon begin visiting with residents at the Northern Lights Manor and Personal Care Home on a weekly basis. The visits will include snacks, entertainment and plenty of interaction. The volunteers have been involved with the Manor for several months, having made monthly visits. They also plan to try and fill any volunteer needs within Flin Flon's long-term care system. For more information about the Mitkas-Hunter Hope Foundation, phone 688-8080.3/10/05
