Flin Flon’s biggest celebration of LGBTQ+ people will go ahead starting later this week with a new slate of events.
This year, Flin Flon Pride will include five main events, most of which will be held either virtually or remotely. The first event will take place July 2, with a virtual flag raising taking place on the group’s Facebook and Instagram pages starting at 5 p.m.
The next day will see the drive-in drag show at the Creighton Sportex, featuring a cast of performers from the Saskatoon-based YXE Drag Collective. The event was originally supposed to be held in the arena’s parking lot, but thanks to recent changes in Saskatchewan health orders, the show will now be held in the Sportex itself. Two shows will be held - one at 7 p.m. for all ages and another starting at 9 p.m. with more mature humour, rated for audiences 16 and over. The rink’s concession stand, Tamara’s Treats, will be open along with a Flin Flon Pride merchandise table.
The third main event for Flin Flon Pride is the “Chalk Ninjas” event, where participants will bring out their best chalk drawing skills Saturday night, revealing the new art Sunday morning. After that, Pride events will take a break until July 10, when organizers will take over programming on 102.9 CFAR, starting a live trivia show starting at 7 p.m. and hosting a call-in request show dance party at 8 p.m.
The final scheduled event will happen July 11 - a virtual Pride parade, starting at 12 noon and being streamed online on the group’s pages. In order to take part, participants are asked to submit videos to organizers by July 7.
