Slightly higher alcohol prices across Manitoba came into effect this week as the province squeezes an extra $10 million in revenue from liquor sales. The government announced in the 2004 budget that liquor prices would go up. The Manitoba Liquor Control Commission's (MLCC) Web site states that all alcohol beverage categories will be affected, as per the following examples: Beer -Budweiser, 12 pack (bottles) - increased by 35 cents from $17.65 to $18.00 -Fort Garry, two-litre - increased by 15 cents from $6.94 to $7.09 - Spirits (all 750 ml sizes to increase by 39 cents; larger sizes to increase proportionately) -Seagrams Five Star, 750 ml - increased by 39 cents from $18.60 to $18.99 See 'Increase' P.# Con't from P.# -Bombay Sapphire Gin, 750 ml - increased by $39 cents from $21.95 to $22.34 Wine (percent increase will vary on different price categories) -Andres Hochtaler - 750 ml - increased by $27 cents from $6.24 to $6.51 -Wolf Blass Yellow Label - 750 ml - increased by 54 cents from $14.73 to $15.27 Coolers -Mike's Hard Lemonade (4/330 ml) - increased by 40 cents from $8.45 to $8.85 -Smirnoff Ice (4/355 ml) - increased by 43 cents from $8.75 to $9.18 Officials with the MLCC say that compared to the rest of Canada, Manitoba's alcohol prices are in the middle of the pack.
