On Monday, Creighton Community School was visited by some very special guests. Saskatchewan Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Scofield was in Creighton to present the Northern Saskatchewan Achievement Awards to a number of deserving students from grades 7-12, as well as the prestigious Lieutenant Governor's Award of Excellence. Each year students from northern Saskatchewan are offered the opportunity to submit essays documenting their achievements throughout the year. Areas such as school attendance and achievement, effort to succeed, awareness and pride in northern heritage, extracurricular and community involvement are included in these submissions. After reading these essays, staff from the school choose students who have shown commitment and determination in their efforts. Aline Nasselquist, Brady Farkus, Jeremy Tait and Magann Sutherland received awards for Grade 7; Bradley Fox for Grade 8; Alyshia Soshycki and Tyler Williamson for Grade 9; and Marley Williamson for Grade 12. Further material is then sent to a central panel in La Ronge, which determines whether any of the students should be considered for the coveted Lieutenant Governor's Award. Six students from the entire north of Saskatchewan are chosen; one at each grade level. Creighton Community School has had a number of deserving recipients over the past years. This year, a current Grade 12 student, Daniel Ratt, was chosen to receive last year's award for Grade 11. Daniel's commitment to his education and future success was noted. The Lieutenant Governor spoke to the support of school staff, family and friends in providing a solid educational foundation for students. Scofield recognized consistent attendance and effort in school achievement and congratulated Daniel for his many successes. Daniel was awarded a medal, along with a certificate in recognition of his efforts. Creighton Community School is proud of Daniel and the other students chosen for their awards.
