The Saskatchewan government is reminding people to lower their chances of contracting West Nile virus.
The mosquitoes that carry the virus are typically active from mid-July to the end of August.
Most people infected with the virus will experience no symptoms, or only mild ones, but there is a small chance of developing a more serious illness that can lead to brain inflammation and even death.
The province urges people to minimize exposure to mosquito bites by using insect repellent and covering up when outdoors, and reducing time outdoors between dusk and dawn.
To reduce mosquito habitats, people are encouraged to regularly clean and empty containers that can collect water, and to maintain door and window screens so they are free of openings.
