The fate of a proposed daycare centre in Creighton hinges on a meeting slated for next week. Bev McCrimmon, a volunteer with the potential project, said unless at least six parents step forward to sit on a board of directors, the daycare won't happen. A meeting for anyone interested in helping with the daycare, including sitting on the board, will take place this Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m. at Creighton Community School. Manitoba and Saskatchewan parents are welcome to attend. McCrimmon and a small group of volunteers has a $50,000 commitment for capital costs to launch a daycare in Creighton. She called next week's meeting a "last ditch effort." "If we don't get the turnout this time, the money is going to be returned," she said. A meeting to discuss the project was held this week but attended by only six people, not all of whom expressed interest in sitting on the board. Between six and eight board members will be needed to make the daycare a reality. If it goes ahead, the daycare could open as soon as September. No location has been finalized, though a couple of undisclosed locations are being considered. If an appropriate existing facility cannot be found, a new building could be constructed. Should an existing building be found, McCrimmon hopes the daycare, featuring up to 41 spots for children under the age of six, would open this September.
