Jonathon Naylor Editor Weeks after raising the spectre of in-town ATV routes being abolished, Mayor George Fontaine says police are on the lookout for reckless operators. At last week's city council meeting, the mayor said underage residents have been illegally operating quads in the community, sometimes carelessly. 'They're going to be watching for that and they will be patrolling,' he said, referring to the Mounties, with whom he has discussed the matter. Mayor Fontaine said the city allows ATVers within city limits only to access routes outside Flin Flon, not as a means of transportation within the community. Early last month, he said council was prepared to rescind that privilege if the irresponsible use of ATVs continued. At that time, the mayor said he 'would like to remind parents _ because I don't think it's adults doing this _ to make sure that they have some control of their kids that they're letting go on machines like this.' A previous city council voted in 2009 to permit ATVs on designated routes within Flin Flon. This came after quad drivers made a pitch for the privilege, arguing that having to load ATVs onto a trailer to take them in and out of town was cumbersome and unnecessary. Maps of designated quad routes are available at City Hall.
