Flin Flon RCMP have reopened their investigation of an alleged sexual assault that dates back nearly two decades.
A Flin Flon woman tells authorities that in 1996, when she was a youth, she was sexually assaulted by a male youth in the community.
At that time, police launched an investigation but did not lay any charges.
In December 2014, the same sexual assault was again reported to Mounties, who have decided to reopen the file and continue the investigation.
RCMP spokesperson Tara Seel would not say whether new information has surfaced to warrant a fresh look at the case.
Ongoing
“This is an ongoing investigation and we cannot discuss details so as not to risk the integrity of the investigation or any possible future court proceedings,” she told The Reminder in an email.
Seel provided the same answer when asked whether the perpetrator and the victim knew each other at the time of the incident, which the victim says occurred indoors.
At this point, as far as police know, the alleged assault involves a single suspect and a single victim. The suspect is no longer a Flin Flon resident.
Asked to describe to whatever extent she could the nature of the allegation, Seel said only that Mounties are investigating the incident as a sexual assault.
