Police are investigating a fire that gutted a car parked in a Ross Street back alley early yesterday morning. Firefighters were called to the scene at 2:19 a.m. yesterday by a resident of a neighbouring home. Fire Chief Jim Petrie said the vehicle, a 1970s Mercury Comet, was "fully involved" when he and a group of firefighters arrived just five minutes later. Firefighters quickly got the flames, some of which rose three feet above the car roof, under control but the damage was done. "The vehicle was a total write-off," said Petrie. All damage was limited to the car. Petrie has turned this file over to the Flin Flon RCMP, who are now investigating. Firefighters also responded to a chimney fire on Hapnot Street yesterday afternoon that turned out to be a false alarm.
