Manitoba RCMP's Major Crime Services are investigating after a 12-year-old suffered a gunshot wound at a remote lake cabin.

At some point July 12, RCMP were alerted to Burntwood Lake, about 60 kilometres northwest of Snow Lake, 70 kilometres southeast of Pukatawagan and 110 kilometres northeast of Flin Flon. At a remote cabin on the lake, a 12-year-old girl from Pukatawagan had been shot and was wounded. Two family members of the girl went from the cabin to the Burntwood Lake Lodge, where they called for help.

Snow Lake RCMP and emergency personnel received the report and travelled to the camp - first taking an emergency services helicopter to the lodge, then by boat to the cabin - and provided medical care, gathering the 12-year-old and taking her to a hospital in Winnipeg for treatment. Her condition is unknown and RCMP described her injuries as "serious".

Other officers reached the cabin to survey the scene, also by helicopter and boat. The investigation into the incident has been moved to Major Crime Services.

No charges have been announced in the incident and no arrests have been made. According to Manitoba RCMP, an investigation is still ongoing.
