Police are investigating a troubling wave of crime involving more than a dozen break-ins across the community and the theft of a car. For the week ended Wednesday, police were notified of a residential break-in and 12 incidents of people illegally entering garages. Items stolen include gas, alcohol, fishing gear and money. Police said it's apparent the thieves have access to a vehicle given the variety of crime scenes. One home owner told the RCMP they believe a small red Ford pickup truck may be involved. That matches the description of a vehicle driven by vandals who apparently tried to chop down a power pole on Third Ave. less than two weeks ago. Police will be extending some of their shifts throughout the summer as they ask for the public's assistance in ending this rash of break-ins. Meanwhile, police ask residents to keep their eyes peeled for a stolen 1996 Chrysler Intrepid, white in colour. It has the Manitoba license plate number DYS 894. Also during the week ended Wednesday, police responded to four assaults, an impaired driver, a case of breach of recognizance and complaints of willful damage to vehicles. Twenty-three prisoners were lodged during the week. RCMP ask anyone with information on any unsolved crime to contact them at 687-7488 or Manitoba Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Callers to Crime Stoppers remain anonymous and may become eligible for a cash reward.
