Last week, The Reminder published an article about Victoria Bouvier, a local high school student whose poem will appear in a book after it was singled out in a poetry contest open to students across North America. Here is Victoria's work: Proud To Be My Race By Victoria Bouvier Feeling Original Because I'm aboriginal Proudly Cree native So I've got to be creative Learning my native language......Cree You know all us natives are feeling free Representing this is our land So proudly all of us stand Ranking at the top of the lists We're fighting back hard but not with our fists We're taking it to the extreme Living the native dream Going to take a seat Listening to the drum, loving that native beat Looking how far we've come now Heading off proudly to the pow wow Holding our elders close to our heart We're on our way now we've got a head start
