Youngsters in Denare Beach will have brand new playground equipment to enjoy this summer. Denare Beach Recreation has purchased a play structure, complete with three slides, climbers and a tic-tac-toe panel, for installation at the Main Beach. "I think it will be an excellent addition to the beach," said Natasha Thomson, recreation director. "The families will really enjoy the new equipment. I know our waterfront is probably one of our biggest assets out here, and that's why we felt it was important to invest into it." The $25,000 unit will be installed on the side of the beach opposite the existing play equipment, which will be removed. The structure is set to go up as soon as the weather permits. Meanwhile, the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation has purchase playground equipment to go up at the entrance to the First Nations community portion of Denare Beach. The equipment consists of a slide, climber, swing set and bench. Thomson said some parents in Denare Beach have been driving their children into Creighton or Flin Flon to play at a park, and that they hopefully won't feel they have to once the new structures are in place. "This does enhance the community," she said. "Denare Beach is no longer just a cottage community. We're a year-round community with lots of young families and we need to provide the programs and facilities for our residents." With the playground upgrades set, Thomson said she is now focusing on plans to further enhance the Denareplex. "The Denareplex is a very busy place," she said. "It's in use seven days a week."
