The results of a place branding for Flin Flon will soon be unveiled.

Information regarding the tourism initative was released at the Aug. 21 city council meeting, with Mayor Cal Huntley announcing that the city would soon be able to see the fruits of Travel Manitoba and McKim Communication Group’s labour.

“There was a byelection that held up the results and we’re going to receive those results on Sept. 4,” said Huntley.

At first, the results of the branding were expected to be released in spring 2018. Huntley said the delay was as a result of a provincial byelection.

The city has already agreed to invest $10,000 or more per year over the next three years for the program.

A public consultation and branding exercise was held in Flin Flon in February, with residents and community leaders meeting with representatives from Travel Manitoba and McKim Communications Group, the agency charged with creating the brand.

Through the consultation, attendees described strengths, weaknesses and items of consideration for the brand. At the time, it was expected that formulation of the brand would take up to eight weeks to create and unveil.

Six months later, the brand will be ready for the city’s perusal.

As a result of the unveiling, the next meeting for Flin Flon’s city council has been postponed, going from Sept. 4 to Sept. 11, exactly one week later.
