Canada's premiers plan to force the issue of a national pharmacare program when they meet with the Liberal government next week. They say such a federal program would save the provinces $7 billion now spent on prescription drugs, and that the money could go toward basic health services. "Many of the ideas in the pharmacare plans across the country will relieve the [health care] waiting lists directly and indirectly," Manitoba Premier Gary Doer told The Globe and Mail. The premiers are slated to meet with the feds September 13 to 15.
