Minor soccer in Flin Flon is the latest cancellation due to COVID-19.

The Phantom Lake Soccer Club announced the complete cancellation of the 2020 soccer season April 23, including all house league and travel team activities, practices, games, training camps and events.

The move comes after the extension of emergency measures relating to COVID-19 in both Manitoba and Saskatchewan, along with cancellation of programming and tournaments by both the Manitoba Soccer Association and Saskatoon Youth Soccer. PLSC teams often travel to Saskatoon for major tournaments.

“During these unprecedented times, our first priority is the wellbeing of our members. We recognize that our players and their families will miss the game we all love. However, we must adhere to the direction of local authorities and our governing body,” read a statement issued online by the club’s board of directors.

Flin Flon was supposed to host an identification camp for the upcoming Manitoba Games May 31, a training and scouting outing to find players for boys’ and girls’ Team North. The PLSC announcement stated there is no “concrete information” about whether ID camps or rescheduling of events or the games themselves would take place.

The Manitoba Games, slated to take place between August 9-15 in Dauphin, have not been cancelled, postponed or rescheduled as of April 24.
