Greg Phair literally couldn't believe his luck. Flin Flon's newest lottery winner had to check his ticket not once, not twice, but three times to make sure he'd actually won.
The operator of Eddie's Family Foods won $100,000 in the June 23 Lotto Max draw. The Extra numbers on Phair's ticket matched the last six digits of the winning Extra drawn number, getting him the cash. While Phair won back in June, he officially claimed his prize in September.
"It's a good feeling - one that I like!" Phair was quoted as saying in a Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries (MLL) announcement. Phair was unsure if he actually won the draw - after using the ticket checker machine at a local gas station and finding he'd won, Phair checked it again, then passed his winning ticket to a clerk at another store to check again, just to make sure.
"Oh god. I was just kind of stunned," Phair said, according to the MLL release.
When asked what he'd do with the money, Phair said he would spend it with his family, doing some travelling when possible and setting aside some for his grandchildren.
"I'd like to set up some education for my grandkids and when COVID-19 lifts, I'd like to take my girlfriend to Ireland and New Orleans," said Phair in the release.
