Some of our four-legged friends are back in town, as the Joe Brain Children's Petting Zoo recently opened for another summer. A mixture of new and returning animals are ready to visit with the public, including baby lambs, horses, and goats. "It's always an interesting experience to come to the zoo," said supervisor Barb Elliott. People have steadily stopped by since the June 5 opening, and Elliott expects it will get even busier once school lets out and children look for ways to fill their days. "Working with the animals and all the kids that come in is a lot of fun," commented the supervisor, adding that the zoo allows visitors to learn about animals they otherwise might not. See 'First' P.# Con't from P.# Nine animals are spending their first summer in Flin Flon, consisting of six baby lambs (Zoey, Annie, Emily, Belle, Romeo, and Feenie), Rosie the calf, Julie the goat, and Mr. White the rabbit. Among those returning are favourites Mel and Cody, a pair of horses, and donkeys Jethro and Buck. Also back are Monty, Rocky, and Bailey the goats. In all, the zoo is home to 24 animals brought in from farms in The Pas. The zoo plans to launch its volunteer program next month. Volunteers help with duties such as cleaning up the yard, feeding, grooming, and assisting with various other duties. Joining Elliott on the zoo staff are Liz Goodman; Crystal Hancock; Aaron Lantz; Brent Neufeld; Heather Pauley; Shaylene Pelly; and Candace Welter. The Joe Brain Children's Petting Zoo is open weekdays from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and weekends from noon to 8 p.m. There is no admission to get in but donations are gratefully accepted.6/15/2004
