Planning a road trip with the company of your dog? Here are a few handy tips that'll help make the experience safer and more pleasant for your canine travel companion. Checklist: A sturdy, secure and ventilated crate - or - a dog restraining harness (available at pet supply stores) A durable collar and leash with ID and vaccination tags attached See 'On' P.# Con't from P.# Necessary medication, food, water and bowls Health and rabies vaccination papers Plastic bags, towels, paper towels and spray cleaner (just in case!) A few of his favourite toys Treats to give to good travellers Do's and Don'ts: Do keep him harnessed or in his crate whenever the care is in motion - he's safer there than roaming around the car Do leash him and take him out to stretch his legs and do his 'business' every two hours Do have his water bowl (with fresh, cold water) available during breaks Do not leave him in the car on a hot day - temperatures can quickly soar (even with open windows), leading to heat stroke and even suffocation.
