What you should do if you have lost your cat or dog: Put an ad on CFAR's Lost and Found as well as an ad in The Reminder. Place posters with a picture around town. It's helpful to show your pet's picture to people such as the RCMP, your mailman, bus drivers, taxi drivers, as well as school kids. Post a reward if you think it will help. Notify Animal Control Officers: (Flin Flon 687-6893; Creighton 688-4375; Denare Beach 688-6185; Cranberry Portage 472-3621). Notify SPCA Office at 687-8744. Don't give up! Of course, it is always better to take measures to ensure your pet doesn't get lost in the first place: See 'Pet' P.# Con't from P.# Keep your cat indoors, and have a fenced in yard for your dog or a dog run. License your pet with City Hall. Your dog can be traced back to you through the number on his dog tag. If vaccinated for rabies, your cat or dog can also be traced through the number of his/her rabies tag. Keep an identification tag (available at our SPCA office) on your pet or microchip your pet. If you can't afford to do that, simply take a magic marker and write your phone number on your dog or cat's collar. With some method of identification, the finder can return your precious pet to you immediately. Always keep a current picture available in case you are unfortunate enough to need it. Any dog or cat turned in to the SPCA with no identification on it is considered a stray animal, and our policy is as follows: First and foremost, it is the owner's responsibility to notify the SPCA if they have lost their pet. Notice of a stray animal and description will be posted at the SPCA office (on Main Street above Pharmasave). The SPCA will keep the dog/cat for a period of seven days from the day of having it turned over to us. After a period of seven days has passed, the animal will be offered up for adoption. Once an adoption has taken place (i.e. adoption papers have been approved and appropriate fee has been paid), the SPCA considers the animal to belong to the adoptive family. Should the previous owner turn up to claim his animal, the SPCA WILL NOT return it to the former owner nor will the SPCA reveal to the former owner the new owner's name. Fees for redeeming lost dogs/cats: Vet fees - if the animal needs medical attention: Day 1 - No Charge Day 2 - $10 Day 3 - $20 Day 4 - $30 Day 5 - $40 Day 6 - $50 Day 7 - $60
