Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation will comply with a new federal transparency law, Chief Peter Beatty told The StarPhoenix.

PBCN, which includes Amisk Lake and Pelican Narrows, missed last week’s deadline to post its audited financial statements online.

Beatty told The StarPhoenix that his band’s statements would not be ready until this month, December.

Ottawa has warned that First Nations failing to comply with the law risk losing non-essential and new funding.

The vast majority of First Nations in Canada have fulfilled the law’s obligations.

The Harper government argues the law ensures on-reserve Canadians know how their band’s money is being spent.
