The City of Flin Flon has asked for permission to place signage at the Whitney Forum to honour a legendary edition of the Flin Flon Bombers. The City last week sent a letter to HBMS, which owns the arena property, making the request. The Flin Flon Bombers have asked the City to give the arena the street address of "57 Memorial Cup Drive" in recognition of the 1957 club, which stunned observers by capturing the coveted Memorial Challenge Cup. If the City secures the Company's approval, Council will decide just what type of signage will be used for the arena. Mayor Dennis Ballard has suggested placing the street address on the building would be suitable. The mayor said he likes the idea of honouring the 1957 squad. "That win was a big moment in our history," he said in a previous interview. "That was unheard of, for a small little town to take that Cup. Nobody thought that could happen, and the best part about it was that the team was made up of several local players." The Flin Flon Bombers defeated the Ottawa Canadiens to capture the 1957 Memorial Challenge Cup.
