There are no plans to include restaurant and bar patios in the expected Manitoba-wide smoking ban, Premier Gary Doer clarified Wednesday. "There's no intent ... to do that," Doer told CJOB, a Winnipeg radio station, when asked about a possible smoking ban for patios. The comment came after Health Living Minister Jim Rondeau told The Winnipeg Sun this week that the patio issue was still being considered. Rondeau and his department are working on legislation that would see all indoor public places across the province go smoke-free. Meanwhile in Saskatchewan, the provincial government will attempt to ban smoking in public places by January 1, 2005.
