Flin Flon City Councillor Bill Hanson wasn't sure what to say Tuesday after the City was asked to go back to regulating parking time on Main Street. A letter from a local resident, reviewed at the council meeting, called on the City to reinstate some form of parking regulation. "There are too many people working or living in the Main Street area who are parking on Main either all day or too long at a time," read the letter. "It is hard to find a parking place on Main Street now that the meters are (deactivated). There should be some way of regulating the parking time on Main Street." Councillor Hanson said he didn't know how to respond to the letter, mentioning that he hears both from people who like free parking uptown and those who do not. "I hear people complain that there's too many people parking on their street, then I hear other people say, 'I love Main Street without (paid parking) because I can always find a spot,'" he said. Councillor Hanson added that he hasn't had any troubles finding parking spots on Main Street in recent months. Council referred the letter to the Committee of the Whole for further review. Linda Lowe, who owns Christie's Flowers and Wedding Wishes on Main Street, thinks things are fine the way they are, with paid parking a thing of the past. "I think it's better for uptown, but it is hard because it can be abused," she said. "I don't think that I would like to see (paid parking) brought back." Council first voted to deactivate all uptown parking meters in January 2003. The decision was made permanent six months later.
