Major upgrades are planned for Kin Park, but not until Flin Flon City Council confirms the land won't be rezoned as commercial property. The Kinsmen and Kinette clubs plan to install a basketball pad and shade structure at the park, as well as undertake general improvements such as painting existing equipment. Before investing the roughly $20,000 required, the clubs want to be sure the land will remain a park and have asked council to state in writing that the area will not be rezoned. Park committee chairman Chad Plamondon said he has no reason to believe the park will be rezoned, but with the ongoing commercial expansion in the community, the clubs just want to be sure. The councillors reviewed the clubs' written request at their Tuesday meeting, referring it to the Engineering Services Committee for further review without making a comment. If council offers confirmation, the volunteers hope to begin work on the park, located at the corner of Green St. and Highway 10A, next spring. "I think it's important for the community," said Plamondon. "There's been so many changes in the community, and it's been a while since we upgraded the park. We want to make it look as good as possible and be as functional as possible. It's something we've been wanting to do for a while and now we finally have the resources to do it." The clubs have received $10,000 for the work through a government grant and are prepared to spend some $10,000 of their own money.
