The Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce is reconsidering the location and concept of its proposed peace park. The park was originally going to be located along Hapnot Lake, and later at Flinty's Park, and feature 17 flags, including those of every province and territory. But neither location was ultimately deemed suitable, so now the chamber is looking at, if possible, establishing the park on the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border at the south end of Main St. The original concept of 17 flags is also being reevaluated. Discussion has taken place about reducing the number of flags to three or four and putting up metal flower ornaments representing the official flower of every province and territory. Those are just ideas at this point, but chamber president Doug O'Brien hopes the organization reaches a decision on the park's future early in the new year. "I think it's getting to the point where we have to move on this or shelve it," he said at yesterday's chamber executive meeting at the Friendship Centre. O'Brien asked the appropriate committee to bring forth a proposal for the park at the chamber's next meeting, slated for Jan. 11. He said he has received input from several residents suggesting the park be located on the border.
