The latest round of approval polls for Canadian premiers is out – and it has mixed results for Manitoba and Saskatchewan’s leaders.

Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister has dropped to a 34 per cent approval rating in the poll, organized by the Vancouver-based Angus Reid Institute and released last month.

Pallister’s rating places him fourth amongst Canadian premiers, marking the lowest ranking by percentage since the beginning of his term in April 2016. The Premier’s rating has steadily dropped since Sept. 2016, when Pallister had an approval rating of 53 per cent and was ranked second overall.

A familiar face sits in the poll’s top spot – Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall.

The country’s longest-serving premier has a 53 per cent approval rating in his last polling session before leaving office, ranking him ahead of new BC Premier John Horgan – 49 per cent – and Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Dwight Ball with 35 per cent.

Wall, who will be retiring from his post in January, is rebounding from a sharp drop in his popularity rating, going from 66 per cent in May 2016 to as low as 45 per cent in June 2017.

Wall has either been tied for top spot or the sole leader in Angus Reid’s polling since 2010. Saskatchewan Party members will choose his replacement on January 27.
