When they say advertising works, they're not kidding. Two weeks ago, The Reminder ran an article about a group of unknown snowboarders who had used wooden pallets to build makeshift ramps near a section of the Flinty's Boardwalk trail. A spokesperson for the Flinty Committee, which oversees the trail, had asked that the outdoor enthusiasts kindly remove the pallets for the summer, calling them "an eyesore" as well as "a hazard" because people had been lighting them on fire. The request worked, as the roughly 50 pallets that were scattered over a hill overlooking Ross Lake are nowhere to be seen. "I have no idea who took them away," said the spokesperson, who requested anonymity. "It'd be interesting to know, but obviously someone was reading The Reminder and paying attention." He added that the committee is "very grateful" for the deed. The committee doesn't mind the pallets being out in the wintertime but feels they take away from the scenery in the summertime, when many residents use the trail.
