The Liberal party's campaign has collapsed and the election is effectively over, says a long-time Liberal activist and author of a forthcoming book on Canadian elections. Ray Argyle, a past president of two Toronto-area Liberal riding associations and an advisor to a number of senior provincial Liberals, said the ineffectiveness of Prime Minister Martin as a campaigner and the inability of his team to unite the party has "virtually given the election to the Conservative party by default."
