Curves members have again showed their true colours, filling box upon box with food for the less fortunate. Yesterday, staff at the Main Street fitness centre presented over 1,800 pounds of food to a grateful Dennis Hydamaka, food distribution chairman of the Lord's Bounty Food Bank. "It's overwhelming," said Curves manager Susan Petalik. "Whenever we're doing any kind of community-minded activity, the members are so generous." The food was collected over the past month, meaning an average of about 60 pounds of pasta, soup and other foods were dropped off each day. It was part of "Food for Friends," a nationwide food drive held at Curves locations across Canada. Last year, the initiative collected over 4.2 million pounds of food for the needy. Pictured (back, left to right) are Dennis Hydamaka with Curves staff members Shelley Etienne and Dianne Kritzer. In front are staffers Terri Lafonte, Susan Petalik, and Sandy Meyer. This isn't the first time that the local Curves members have extended a helping hand to the community. Last holiday season, the members donated roughly 100 teddy bears, dolls, board games and other gifts to a program for needy children.
