Although a number of concerns came up along the way, Dave Kendall will remember his latest term as president of the Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce with a smile. "I think it was a pretty good year, and I enjoyed it," said the chartered accountant, whose one-year term expired yesterday. "We had some concerns, obviously, on declining membership and our ability to do some of the projects that we would like to see done. "But I think on the other hand, we've got a good group on our executive that is very dedicated and works hard and will be continuing to work hard to try to improve the membership and also work in partnership with others to get some of the projects done that we'd like to see." Kendall, an active member with the Chamber for some two decades, had previously served as president for three years in the early 1990s. He said he feels the high point of his latest term was the Chamber and City of Flin Flon's minting of commemorative Flin Flon coins, which were unveiled last week. "The coin, no doubt, is probably the highlight in that it has been very well-received and it will also be a fundraiser for the Chamber," he said. Kendall will still be active with the Chamber as past-president to his successor, Doug O'Brien. In his final act as president at yesterday's Chamber annual general meeting, Kendall presented special awards to two members. He announced that the President's Award (for assisting the president throughout his or her term) will go to Phil Robinson. The outgoing president also presented the Rookie of the Year Award to Lorraine Poirier. Chamber accomplishments during 2002-03 fiscal year include: the purchase of the Flintabbatey Flonatin costume; the purchase of banners to welcome people to the community; the development of new postcards; the hosting of Todd Schwartz, U.S. Consul to Manitoba, at a luncheon at the Victoria Inn; the sponsorship of a Queen Mermaid contestant; the successful nomination of member Doug O'Brien for a Manitoba Chamber of Commerce award; the placement of a float in the Canada Day Parade that featured Flinty; the completion of a spring clean-up program; and the success of another radio auction.
