Miners and other companies that tap into natural resources will be watching how Ottawa handles a federal policy review.
The Trudeau government is looking to tighten up the environmental assessment process around natural resource development projects in Canada, CBC.ca reports.
The network reports that the review will include six ministries: Natural Resources, Indigenous and Northern Affairs, Fisheries and Oceans, Environment and Climate Change, Transport, and Science and Innovation.
“Developed wisely, major resource projects can power economies, help solve environmental challenges, support communities and create jobs,” Fisheries Minister Dominic LeBlanc said, as quoted by CBC.ca. “Without proper oversight, however, they can lead to environmental degradation, stranded assets, broken trust and lost opportunities.”
