Two men were lucky to be alive after a loaded ore truck struck their car on the Perimeter Highway yesterday afternoon. There were no serious injuries when the driver's side rear was hit as the Chevrolet Geo pulled onto the highway from the Cliff Lake Road, police said. "You don't get struck by a 125,000-lb. ore truck and walk away very often," said Cst. Paul Berthelot of the Flin Flon RCMP. The ore truck driver was not injured when, police said, he turned to avoid the compact car and plowed some 60 feet into the ditch, tipping the truck on its side and spilling his freight. The mangled car was propelled to the opposite side of the highway, coming to rest on the shoulder of nearby Princess Blvd. Police said charges are pending against the driver of the car. Alcohol was not a factor. The driver of the car, a Denare Beach man in his early 20s, sustained minor lacerations and was taken to hospital. Neither his passenger, a Creighton man also in his early 20s, nor the ore truck driver, a Flin Flon man, required treatment. Members of the Flin Flon Fire Dept. responded to the scene to contain diesel gas that leaked from the ore truck after it hit the ditch. Both vehicles are write-offs, police said. The accident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. This was the second accident in three days involving a semi truck. On Monday morning, no one was injured when a semi truck slid off the road and plowed through a power pole before striking a Tweedsmuir St. home.
