The Canadian Taxpayers Federation has launched an online petition calling on the Manitoba government to cancel a planned PST hike. The PST is set to rise by one point, to eight per cent, effective July 1, the NDP announced in its latest budget last week. The petition, which can be signed at Taxpayer.com, is addressed to Premier Greg Selinger. 'During the 2011 election your party promised not to raise taxes,' it states. 'Yet your 2013 budget contained an increase to the provincial sales tax; from 7 per cent to 8 per cent. That's not acceptable. Instead of raiding taxpayers' wallets, you should be focused on cutting government waste. 'We the undersigned demand that you keep your 2011 election promise and reverse the PST hike.'
