A former waterworks operator for the Northern Village of Denare Beach has pleaded guilty to one charge of providing false information in waterworks operational records and logs, Saskatchewan Environment has announced. The man, whose name was not released, appeared in Provincial Court in Creighton last month and was fined after pleading guilty to a charge relating to an incident that occurred in Denare Beach in Dec. 2003. According to a government press release, the charge was laid after complaints were received from Denare Beach, leading to a preliminary investigation by the municipal government and further investigation by Saskatchewan Environment. Saskatchewan Environment "does not believe the quality of drinking water in the Village was affected by this action," read the press release, "however, this kind of situation can result in significant risk to public health and cannot be permitted." This was the first time in Saskatchewan that charges related to a waterworks operation were formally laid and pursued through the courts.
