The Reminder is making its archives back to 2003 available on our website. Please note that, due to technical limitations, archive articles are presented without the usual formatting.
A growing number of people are keeping on top of the latest Flin Flon news courtesy of the world wide web. The Reminder's official web site received 54,000 hits last month, an average of 1,800 visits per day. That's more than double the traffic volume experienced last January. "It's mostly ex-Flin Flonners checking out what's happening in our area," said Debbie Doverspike, site data manager. Most of the hits are from within Canada, but others have come from the United States and as far away as the Republic of Seychelles, an island nation east of Africa. The site includes the top news and sports story from each edition of The Reminder as well as tourist information, a photo gallery and a business directory. There are also archives of the popular Looking Back series with longtime residents and stories of timeless interest, such as the recent article about a filmmaker planning a Flin Flon documentary. There is no charge to log on, but visitors wanting to subscribe to the complete online version of The Reminder or the monthly regional magazine Cottage North (both are e-mailed to customers) must pay a subscription fee. It's $15 a month, or $150 a year, for The Reminder and $3 per issue for Cottage North. Doverspike said word of mouth and the fact that the web address appears in Cottage North has contributed to the increasing popularity of Reminder Online. The Reminder went online last year, following in the steps of many newspapers around the world making use of Internet technology. To check out Reminder Online, log onto www.r-online.ca6/12/04
