The search for a summer job just got easier.
The Manitoba Youth Job Centre recently opened for the season at the Barrow Provincial Building.
“We are a one-stop shop for your employment needs,” said youth engagement leader Carissa Zoerb.
The centre offers free services to students and youth seeking summer employment as well as employers with seasonal vacancies.
Job-hunters ages 12 and up register with the centre and are kept up to date on job openings.
Employers can post job listings and have the centre refer the most qualified candidates. Homeowners can also hire youth for tasks such as painting, mowing and landscaping.
The centre also operates the Odd Job Squad, designed to let workers aged 12 to 16 build their skills, get out in the community and earn some money.
Zoerb said Odd Job Squad events like the Flower Frenzy, in which youth deliver fresh flowers to customers, and a specialty iced-tea sale were popular last year and will likely return.
She is further available to assist youth with job-search skills such as resume and cover-letter writing, and how to approach a job interview.
Manitoba Youth Job Centres are sponsored by
the Government of Manitoba. The Flin Flon office, housed in room 201 of the Barrow Provincial Building, serves Flin Flon and Cranberry Portage. Youth and employers can contact Zoerb at
