The Northern Health Region (NHR) is aiming to go to tender with the new Flin Flon General Hospital emergency department around the end of November.
That would set early 2016 as a target date for site preparation and spring 2016 as a likely date for construction to begin.
“It’s kind of that behind-the-scenes work right now that’s going on,” said Joy Tetlock, vice-president of planning and innovation for the NHR.
“We are working with the architect firm to complete the working drawings, and these are the drawings that will be part of the documents to go forward for tender.”
Tetlock said the project has stayed relatively on the initial timeline laid out.
“As long as steps keep going sort of according to plan, we should be aiming for [completion in] 2018,” she told The Reminder last week.
The new emergency department will offer staff and patients more space and more modern amenities compared to the current, cramped ER.
The department will include an addition to the hospital. A plan is in place to ensure patient care is not disrupted during construction.
The province has budgeted $22 million for the project, with $2.2 million of that tab coming from private fundraising.
