For decades it has ranked among Flin Flon's most venerable social occasions. And this year's installment of the St. Ann's Roman Catholic Parish Bazaar was no exception. Last Saturday afternoon, Oct. 26, almost 600 people, if not more, passed through the R.H. Channing Auditorium for the church fundraiser. 'It was extremely well attended,' said Kathy McCormick, co-convener along with Cathy Daneliuk. A combination marketplace and tea, the bazaar featured a dozen retail booths and a 'tea room,' a cordoned-off area where guests dined on tea sandwiches and dainties. Visitors enjoyed a very visual experience as the auditorium was decked out in an autumn theme, complete with scarecrows, pumpkins and orange leaves. 'It just looked so beautiful,' observed Daneliuk. As the single largest St. Ann's fundraiser of the year, the bazaar was expected to raise about $12,000 to help operate the church. In the neighbourhood of 150 volunteers made the bazaar a reality, whether it meant baking dainties, pouring tea or decorating the hall. 'They were there with bells on,' said McCormick. 'They did their tasks, they worked willingly and gave unselfishly of their time to make this parish event a success.' Among the items for sale at the booths were candy cups and popcorn treats as well as novelty items like handmade stockings and blankets. 'Our novelty items are donated by a very small group of dedicated parishioners,' said Daneliuk. 'There's only a few of them and the money that they spend, it's unbelievable.' While many visitors got some Christmas shopping done, the atmosphere was by no means hectic. 'It was laid back, relaxed,' said McCormick. 'It was comfortable, it was warm.'
