Northern Saskatchewan funding support

The Wall government says it is helping create a better life for children and families by continuing to fund KidsFirst programs across the province, including in northern Saskatchewan.

For 2015-16, the government will provide $14.76 million to nine KidsFirst programs through the ministries of Education and Health.

“Helping children get a good start in life is an important part of securing their future success, as well as a better quality of life for all Saskatchewan people,” said Education Minster Don Morgan.

Through KidsFirst, parents are taught positive parenting skills as they learn about prenatal health, child development, literacy, nutrition and how to improve the health and well-being of their children.

The program also connects parents with support services in their community, such as child care and early learning programs, parent support groups, life skills classes, education opportunities and specialized services including mental health and addictions counselling.

“This program supports children and families who need help the most, to give them every chance for healthy and productive lives,” said Health Minister Dustin Duncan.

KidsFirst supports approximately 1,900 families annually in the Battlefords, Meadow Lake, Moose Jaw, Nipawin, Prince Albert, Regina, Saskatoon, Yorkton and northern Saskatchewan.
