The following is a round-up of some of the recent policing activities from throughout northern Manitoba for the past week or so: Churchill Detachment There were 31 calls for service over the past two weeks. One assault, one utter threats, eleven disturbances, two Mental Health Act, one harassment, one possession of cannabis, and a few property crimes. Bear news: They have had two mischievous youngsters that have been keeping the DNR and the RCMP very busy by running around the town and breaking in to garbage bins at all hours of the day and night. Flin Flon/Cranberry Portage Detachment Thirty-nine files, five assaults, one Child Welfare Act, four disturbances, three thefts, one theft of motor vehicle, one Mental Health Act, three property damage, four MVAs. One collision was a double fatal. Gillam Detachment One impaired driving, one carry concealed weapon, three mischief, one Mental Health Act, two disturbances, and various liquor and traffic offences. This past week an adult male was arrested for impaired driving, and upon arrest three throwing knives were located strapped to his leg beneath his pants. Grand Rapids Detachment Twenty-six calls for assistance this week. One sex assault (spousal), one assault, three mischief, four property damage, four disturbances, one B&E, one new RCMP applicant. Island Lake Detachment One firearm complaint, one disturbance, one harassing phone calls, one suicide (male youth), one spousal assault, two missing hunters. On October 20, four hunters were travelling back from their trapline when their boat overturned. Two made it to shore and were rescued by the remainder of the hunting party the next day. The other two were not found. On Monday one body was located. The search, which is believed to be a recovery mission, is strategizing on their next moves. Leaf Rapids Detachment It was a steady week in Leaf Rapids and South Indian Lake with 38 new files and 7 prisoners. One spousal assault, three assaults, three mischief, three Mental Health Act, four breaches, seven disturbances, and one B&E. Lynn Lake Detachment This past week members responded and investigated to two assault with weapon, one assault, one sexual assault, one spousal assault, one theft, one I.M.V.A., and a dozen other minor calls. Nine prisoners were lodged with one remanded in custody. Moose Lake Detachment Sixteen files, eight prisoners. Two spousal assaults, one assault, one overdose, one disturbance, one theft, two mischief, two nuisance phone calls and other calls for service. Norway House Detachment Fifty-nine files, eighteen prisoners, fourteen assaults, six disturbances, three Mental Health Act, eight mischief, four reports of impaired driving, two B&Es, four theft and various other calls. Oxford House Detachment The members of Oxford House Detachment responded to 27 calls for service and lodged 11 prisoners. Reports of home brew parties dominated the calls for service; however, the members have seen a significant decrease of alcohol/substance abuse over the past summer. This can be credited to the pro-active partnerships with all agencies involved. Pukatawagan Detachment Ten calls for service, one assault, one Mental Health Act, four disturbances and other calls. Snow Lake Detachment Complaints of theft and mischief. The Pas Detachment Eighty-six files, 23 prisoners, eight assaults, one sex assault, two Fatal Inquiries Act, one Mental Health Act, one utter threats, one impaired, nine B&Es, eight theft under, eleven mischief, three CDSA. The Pas RCMP acting on a tip executed two search warrants and seized child pornography. A man has been charged with one count of possessing child pornography. Thompson Detachment Two hundred forty-seven files, 137 prisoners (out of these 34 were lodged under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act). Four sexual assaults, 23 assaults, two assaults with weapons, one aggravated assault, one assault on police, five B&Es, 18 thefts, 26 property damage, 60 disturbances, one utter threats, two Child Welfare Act, four Family Relations Act, seven Mental Health Act, 10 persons reported missing, one dangerous driving, and one impaired driving.
