Friday brought about a milestone in Manitoba's fight against COVID-19. As of May 8, it's been one month since the last case of COVID-19 was reported within northern Manitoba.
The number of confirmed positive cases reported within the Northern Health Region (NHR) has remained at three since April 8, by far the lowest number of cases in any health region in Manitoba.
Every other health region in Manitoba has reported positive cases in the double digits since the beginning of the outbreak. The region with the second fewest cases, the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority, currently has seen 18 confirmed positive cases and two probable cases of the disease.
While exact, confirmed locations of the cases have not been confirmed by provincial or regional health officials, the Manitoba goverment has confirmed that the three cases within NHR were in a female in her 20s, a male in his 30s and a male in his 50s. The three cases have been reported March 30, April 2 and April 8.
Restrictions and penalties for non-essential travel into northern Manitoba remain in effect.
Since the outbreak began, 284 cases have been reported in Manitoba. Seven people have died from the disease, while 247 people were confirmed to have had COVID-19 and have since recovered. As of May 8, only 30 more Manitobans still have the disease.
