A worker at a Flin Flon seniors' facility is self-isolating after having tested positive for COVID-19.
A statement from the Northern Health Region (NHR) to The Reminder confirmed the positive case Sept. 8. The worker self-isolated shortly after testing positive and is recovering from the disease at home. The NHR also confirmed the worker did not work at the manor during a period where they may have been infectious.
"Contact tracing has been done and close contacts have been identified," read a statement issued by an NHR spokesperson.
"At this time, there are no residents at Northern Lights Manor exhibiting symptoms."
There is no word on how the worker may have been exposed to COVID-19. The case is the same as the one previously reported to be in the Flin Flon/Snow Lake/Cranberry Portage/Sherridon health region, then listed as being within the NHR but in an "unknown district".
In a letter sent out to family members and contacts of Northern Lights Manor residents obtained by The Reminder, the NHR confirmed no residents of the manor are showing symptoms of COVID-19. Family members have been contacted directly by the NHR if their loved ones have required COVID-19 testing.
"We appreciate this is incredibly unsettling news for our residents and their loved ones. Please be assured that we have moved quickly to enact precautions that will prevent any further spread of illness," reads the NHR letter.
"The care of our residents' health is our top priority."
At the manor, visitors have been restricted from entering the facility or visiting loved ones until further notice. Staff are being screened, with testing being carried out later if required, according to the NHR.
Staff working with residents at the manor will wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when working to reduce the risk of transmitting or contracting the disease.
"While the risk to the residents and staff at the home are extremely low, out of an abundance of caution, to assist with contact tracing, and to help stop the spread of the illness, visiting was restricted immediately and will be reevaluated as required," reads the statement from the NHR spokesperson.
