Jonathon Naylor Editor A renowned local artist in his own right, Gerry Clark liked what he saw at the 35th Annual Northern Juried Art Show. Held at the R.H. Channing Auditorium last weekend, the show featured 161 pieces from 72 artists. About two-thirds of the entries were from Flin Flon, Creighton and Denare Beach. Clark co-chaired the show along with Leslie McKeachnie. The Reminder asked for his thoughts. * * * Reminder: What did you think of the quality of the work? What pieces most impressed you? Clark: The quality was, as usual, impressive even though a number of well-known artists didn't enter this year. What was disappointing was that the number of out-of-town entries was down. We only got art from four communities: The Pas, Wanless, Cranberry Portage and Thompson. As far as the pieces that impressed me Ð the ones I'd like to have in my home Ð I really liked Monique Rainville's People's Choice-winning "Pelicans." Ron Watt's "Totem" was the one that I voted for. Linda Mandes' watercolour "Grampa and Gramma" was on my favorites list as was Catherine Joa-Hall's "Morning Walk." Reminder: What did you make of the fact that Flin Flon/Creighton artists dominated the awards, taking 29 out of 40? Clark: As I said, the number of out-of-town entries was down and the proportion of winners is about the same as the proportion of local entries to the overall entry. There is no doubt that the Norva Centre [on Green St.] has contributed to a noticeable improvement in the work of several of our up-and-coming local artists.
