The Northern Health Region is “disappointed” by the Manitoba Human Rights Commission’s decision to appeal a ruling that favoured the NHR, a spokesman said.
Earlier this month a judge overturned a human-rights ruling that gave former Flin Flon health care aide Linda Horrocks compensation and her job back after she was fired over allegations of inappropriate drinking.
The commission promptly announced it would file an appeal against the ruling in the coming weeks.
“While we are disappointed, an appeal to the Court of Appeal is an available option to them,” said NHR spokesman Glenn Hildebrand. “We have nothing further to add at this time.”
Since news of the appeal appeared in The Reminder, major media outlets such as the Winnipeg Free Press, Winnipeg Sun and CBC have picked up the story.
Should the judge’s ruling stand, the NHR intends to recoup its legal costs.
