Few charitable organizations are as vital to the wellbeing of northern Manitobans as the Northern Health Foundation.
By bridging financial gaps on health care capital projects, the NHF is playing a crucial role across the region.
Now the NHF is looking to broaden its reach. With four directors already in place, the foundation is seeking up to 11 other directors from throughout northern Manitoba.
The NHF is asking existing health care foundations and auxiliaries to nominate a member to the board to help ensure partnerships among the organizations flourish.
Other nominees are also encouraged. Aboriginal applicants and those with disabilities are encouraged to self-identify on their application.
The board will govern the NHF and make decisions on fundraising strategies and activities, spending decisions and priority areas.
The NHF will complement the work existing health auxiliaries and foundations have been doing across the region for years.
The NHF became necessary due to a government policy requiring up to 20 per cent of any provincially funded health care capital project be covered by private fundraising.
The foundation’s initial focus is the planned new ER at the Flin Flon General Hospital, but its assistance will be required with future projects in other northern communities.
“Our current project is helping to raise the $2.2 million community contribution required for the new Flin Flon Emergency Room redevelopment project,” said Flin Flon board member Brent Lethbridge. “We believe there is enough support and community spirit to sustain each of these vital organizations, now and into the future.”
The NHF has board positions available for one-, two- an three-year terms.
