Short on workers for the upcoming provincial election, Elections Saskatchewan (ES) is encouraging residents in the Creighton region to consider applying.
In the Cumberland constituency, ES will need about 210 workers for the April 4 election and so far has fewer than 50, said spokesperson Tim Kydd.
He said the main positions available are for deputy returning officers and poll clerks, who work together to monitor ballot boxes, hand out ballots, cross out voter names as they cast ballots, and count ballots once polls close.
Kydd said ES also needs information officers, who greet voters at voting locations and ensure each has proper ID. Registration officers are also needed to register voters who are not already on the voters’ list.
To help spark interest, ES encourages service organizations to provide workers who may then donate some or all of their income to the organization or a particular cause.
Interested workers may log onto the Elections Saskatchewan website and click on the “Work in the Election” tab at the top of the screen. They may also call 1-855-220-7355.
Manitoba residents are not eligible. If ES cannot find enough workers within the Cumberland constituency, it has the option of finding workers from elsewhere in Saskatchewan.
