The new owners of a northern Saskatchewan gold mine appear optimistic over the site’s potential.
Vancouver-based Silver Standard Resources purchased Claude Resources Inc. in late May. This gave Silver Standard ownership of the Seabee gold operation, located about 125 km northeast of La Ronge.
Silver Standard said on its website that Seabee produced a record 75,748 ounces of gold in 2015. Anticipated production in 2016 is between 65,000 and 72,000 ounces.
As for the site’s exploration potential, Silver Standard stated: “Over 23,000 hectares of an underexplored, prospective greenstone belt land position. Exploration activities in 2016 are focused on several near-mine targets and the conversion of Mineral Resources [an estimate of resources] to Mineral Reserves.”
The company noted that aircraft provides access to the mine site from La Ronge or Flin Flon. Equipment and large supplies are transported to the site via a 60-km winter road that is typically open from January to March.
