Do you want to run for local council in Creighton or Denare Beach? You’ll have your chance to do so this week.
The call for nominations for the upcoming Creighton town council, Denare Beach village council and Creighton School Division elections is now open.
In Creighton, the position of mayor and six seats on local council are up for grabs. Registration for the election will begin Sept. 23, when interested applicants can pick up or submit applications at the Creighton Town Office from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Applications will be accepted during business hours at the office until Oct. 7. Nomination forms can also be found at the town office.
Denare Beach’s period for nominations begins Sept. 23 and will continue on until Oct. 7. Nomination forms can be picked up and turned in at the village office during business hours.
For the Creighton School Division board, five seats are up for grabs. Nominations will be accepted from Sept. 22-Oct. 7 at the division office. The office is still closed to the public due to COVID-19 and nomination forms can be picked up during an appointment, which can be booked by calling (306) 688-5825.
Election day for the three groups will be Nov. 9, two weeks after the likely provincial election date. Cities, towns, villages and rural municipalities across Saskatchewan will also be voting for new councillors, mayors, reeves and other officials on the same day.
In Creighton, advance polls will be held Oct. 27 and Nov. 4, with the final vote Nov. 9. All polls will be held at the Creighton town office, with special COVID-19 protocols in effect. A one-way track through the building will be in use, with voters entering through the front door, voting with a golf pencil in the council boardroom, then leaving the building through the back door.
Mayor Bruce Fidler and council members Neal Andrusiak, Kory Eastman, Darren Grant, Dan Hlady, Anita Rainville and Colleen Stallard will all be up for reelection. Of the group, Eastman, Hlady, Rainville and Stallard are currently serving their first terms on council - all but Rainville, who won her seat last year during a byelection after the death of longtime councillor Shirley Owen, won their seats in 2016.
In Denare Beach, Mayor Carl Lentowicz and councillors Jean Champagne, Dale Holmgren, Scott McCullum, Karen Thomson, Beverly Wheeler and Frank Wiegers are all up for the vote, along with any potential challengers.
The Creighton School Division board of trustees currently consists of chair Ray Biberdorf, vice-chair Donna Ferguson and Terry Brown, Hermeline Fagnan and Dawna Rudd.
