The Liberals aren’t seeking a recount in the northern Saskatchewan riding they lost by 70 votes.
Defeated Liberal candidate Lawrence Joseph’s campaign had until Wednesday to decide whether to ask for a judicial recount.
Reached Wednesday afternoon, campaign manager Daniel Bourque said the campaign had until the end of the business day to make a decision.
He told The Reminder that the campaign would issue a news release if it chose to seek a recount. No news release came.
But Joseph may not be down for the count just yet. Bourque made a point of saying the Liberals have 30 days from the time the election results were validated to seek a repeal of the result. Results were validated on Oct. 24.
It remains to be seen whether the Liberals go that rare route. It would involve going before the courts and asking that the election result to be voided, meaning a by-election would take place.
The Liberal campaign says it has reports of polls in the riding temporarily running out of ballots on election night on Oct. 19, deterring some people from voting.
The NDP’s Georgina Jolibois has been declared the winner in Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River on the strength of her 70-vote lead out of more than 30,000 cast.
